"You Can Touch My Hair" is a celebration of girlhood, friendship, and the quiet intimacy of shared moments. For me, the act of doing someone’s hair—or having mine done by a friend—has always been more than just a practical gesture. It’s a rite of passage— a bond solidified through trust, care, and shared time. Those moments, whether before an event or during a casual afternoon, became a way of saying, “I see you, and I’m here for you.”
In this painting, Solange takes center stage, an artist whose music accompanied many of my own transformative moments growing up. Her song “Don’t Touch My Hair” inspired the title—a playful twist that reflects not only the permission but the invitation to engage in this act of closeness. This piece weaves together music, memory, and girlhood, honoring the connections that shape us.
